Cards Carousel

Set up the Cards Carousel to showcase review photos, videos, and text in a mobile-responsive carousel on your Shopify store

The Cards Carousel (or the new Reviews Carousel) is a flexible, fully customizable widget that displays your product reviews in an elegant sliding format. With its mobile-first design and Shopify-native theme editor settings, you can showcase different types of review content on any page, tailored to your brand style. Use it to:

  • Feature highly visual reviews with images or clean text-only cards

  • Customize layout, behavior, and review selection per page

  • Create multiple carousels with different styles for different goals

How it looks

The Cards Carousel displays reviews in a horizontal carousel using a modern, card-based layout. Each card can include review text, customer name, product name, star rating, and optional review media (photo or video).


The carousel layout adjusts automatically based on device size:

  • Desktop: 3 to 5 cards, depending on your settings and screen width

  • Tablet: reduced number of cards

  • Mobile: always 1 card with swipe navigation

  • Arrows automatically hide when there are not enough reviews to scroll

Cards are styled according to the settings you configure in the Shopify Theme Editor, including colors, text size, corner rounding, and image ratio.

How it works

The Cards Carousel lets you display selected reviews in a horizontal, swipeable layout. You can choose which reviews to show (all reviews, product reviews, store reviews, or specific products) and customize how each card looks. The carousel automatically adjusts to different screen sizes, showing one card on mobile and multiple cards on larger screens. You can also control whether to display review media, reviewer names, product names, card styling, and more through the Shopify Theme Editor.

Considerations

  • The Cards Carousel does not include the AI Review Summary feature.

  • The number of visible cards may adjust automatically based on screen size.

  • Some settings only appear when certain options are enabled (for example, media-related settings appear only when review media is enabled).

  • The widget requires at least one eligible review; otherwise, it will not display.

  • Arrows are hidden when there are not enough reviews to scroll.

  • Options like "Current product" or "Current collection" only work on the respective page types.

Add the Cards Carousel

Step 1: Enable Judge.me app embed

To enable Judge.me app embed:

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Online Store > Themes.

  2. Find the theme you want to edit.

  3. Click Edit theme.

  4. In the left menu, click the App embeds icon (the third icon).

  5. Enable Judge.me app embed.

  6. Click Save on the top right.

Step 2: Add the Cards Carousel block

To install the Cards Carousel in Shopify theme editor:

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Online Store > Themes.

  2. Find the theme you want to edit.

  3. Click Edit theme.

  4. At the top of the theme editor, open the template dropdown in the middle.

  5. Select a template where you want to show the Cards Carousel.

  6. On the left panel, inside Template, click (+) Add section.

  7. Go to the Apps tab.

  8. Select the Cards Carousel block.

  9. (Optional) Hover over the block, hold the 6-dot icon (⋮⋮), and drag it up or down to change its position.

  10. Click Save on the top right.

Customize the Cards Carousel

To access all settings for the Cards Carousel:

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Online Store > Themes.

  2. Find the theme you want to edit.

  3. Click Edit theme.

  4. At the top of the theme editor, open the template dropdown in the middle.

  5. Select the template where you added the Cards Carousel.

  6. On the left panel, inside Template, find the Cards Carousel block you added.

  7. Click the block to open its settings.

Once opened, you can customize the review selection, layout, styling, behavior, and header of that specific Cards Carousel block.

1. Reviews selection

Show sample reviews (Preview only)

If you haven’t collected any reviews yet, you can still enable sample reviews to see how the Cards Carousel looks in the preview of your Shopify Theme Editor. This setting does not affect the live storefront.

To show sample reviews for the Cards Carousel in your Shopify Theme Editor:

  1. Go to the Cards Carousel settings.

  2. In the REVIEWS SELECTION section at the top, enable "Show sample reviews (Preview only)".

  3. Click Save on the top right.

Reviews selection

To choose which types of reviews to show in the Cards Carousel:

  1. Go to the Cards Carousel settings.

  2. In the REVIEWS SELECTION section at the top, open the Reviews selection dropdown.

  3. Select one of the following options:

    • All

    • Product reviews

    • Store reviews

    • Current product (only works on product pages)

    • Current collection (only works on collection pages)

    • Featured

    • Custom products

  4. Click Save on the top right.

Reviews selection: Featured

If you select "Featured", to feature a review to show in the Cards Carousel:

  1. From your Judge.me admin, go to Reviews.

  2. Find the review you want to feature.

  3. Click the heart icon (♡) on the left of that review.

These featured reviews also appear in the Reviews Carousel, Pop-up Reviews Widget, and Testimonials Carousel if they are set to show only featured reviews.

Reviews selection: Custom products

If you select "Custom products", to select the specific products you want the Cards Carousel to display reviews from:

  1. Go to the Cards Carousel settings.

  2. In the REVIEWS SELECTION section at the top, next to Select products (when “Reviews Selection”: Custom products), click Select.

  3. Click the checkboxes next to the products you want to pull reviews from. You can select up to 10 products.

  4. Click Save on the top right.

Star rating

To choose the ratings you want to show in the Cards Carousel:

  1. Go to the Cards Carousel settings.

  2. In the REVIEWS SELECTION section at the top, open the Star rating dropdown.

  3. Select one of the following options:

    • "All" – shows reviews of all ratings

    • "5-star only" – shows only 5-star reviews

    • "4 to 5-star only" – shows only 4-star and 5-star reviews

    • "3 to 5-star only" – shows only 3, 4, and 5-star reviews

  4. Click Save on the top right.

Review media

To show the customer photos or videos in the Cards Carousel:

  1. Go to the Cards Carousel settings.

  2. In the REVIEWS SELECTION section at the top, enable "Show review media".

  3. Click Save on the top right.

Then, to choose which types of reviews to show first:

  1. Go to the Cards Carousel settings.

  2. In the REVIEWS SELECTION section at the top, open the Display order dropdown.

  3. Select one of the following options:

    • Media first

    • Most recent

  4. Click Save on the top right.

You can also set a fallback when a review has no image:

  1. Go to the Cards Carousel settings.

  2. In the REVIEWS SELECTION section at the top, open the No image fallback dropdown.

  3. Select one of the following options:

    • Review text only

    • Product image

  4. Click Save on the top right

Maximum review number

To set the maximum number of reviews you want to show in the Cards Carousel:

  1. Go to the Cards Carousel settings.

  2. In the REVIEWS SELECTION section at the top, adjust the Maximum review number slider (or enter a number from 1-30).

  3. Click Save on the top right.

2. Layout

Review length

To control how much of the review text is shown before truncation in the Cards Carousel:

  1. Go to the Cards Carousel settings.

  2. In the LAYOUT section, open the Review length dropdown.

  3. Select one of the following options: Small, Medium, Large.

  4. Click Save on the top right.

Text size

To control the font size for the text inside each card in the Cards Carousel:

  1. Go to the Cards Carousel settings.

  2. In the LAYOUT section, open the Text size dropdown.

  3. Select one of the following options: Small, Medium, Large.

  4. Click Save on the top right.

Image ratio

To select the aspect ratio for review media in the Cards Carousel:

  1. Go to the Cards Carousel settings.

  2. In the LAYOUT section, for Image ratio, select one of the following ratios: 4:3, 1:1, 3:4.

  3. Click Save on the top right.

Reviews shown on desktop

To set the number of reviews displayed at once on desktop in the Cards Carousel:

  1. Go to the Cards Carousel settings.

  2. In the LAYOUT section, adjust Reviews shown on desktop using the slider or by entering a value (3-5).

  3. Click Save on the top right.

Note:

The carousel will automatically adjust on smaller screens. Mobile always shows one card.

Reviewer name

To show the reviewer name in the Cards Carousel:

  1. Go to the Cards Carousel settings.

  2. In the LAYOUT section, enable "Show reviewer name".

  3. Click Save on the top right.

Product name

To show the product name in the Cards Carousel:

  1. Go to the Cards Carousel settings.

  2. In the LAYOUT section, enable "Show product name".

  3. Click Save on the top right.

Arrows on mobile

To hide navigation arrows on mobile devices (Customers can still swipe to navigate):

  1. Go to the Cards Carousel settings.

  2. In the LAYOUT section, enable "Hide arrows on mobile".

  3. Click Save on the top right.

Arrows position

To choose where navigation arrows appear:

  1. Go to the Cards Carousel settings.

  2. In the LAYOUT section, for Arrows position, select "Sides" or "Bottom".

  3. Click Save on the top right.

Maximum width

To limit how wide the Cards Carousel appears on the page:

  1. Go to the Cards Carousel settings.

  2. In the LAYOUT section, adjust Maximum width using the slider or by entering a pixel value (600 to 1600px).

  3. Click Save on the top right.

3. Styling

Corner styling

To choose the corner style for each review card in the Cards Carousel:

  1. Go to the Cards Carousel settings.

  2. In the STYLING section, open the Corner styling dropdown.

  3. Select one of the following options: Square, Soft, Round, Extra round.

  4. Click Save on the top right.

Colors

To customize the colors used in the Cards Carousel:

  1. Go to the Cards Carousel settings.

  2. In the STYLING section, adjust any of the following color options: Header text color, Text color, Card color, Stars color, Stars color.

  3. Click Save on the top right.

4. Transition speed

To customize the moving speed between each review in the Cards Carousel:

  1. Go to the Cards Carousel settings.

  2. Scroll down to the BEHAVIOR section.

  3. Adjust the Maximum review number slider (0-60 seconds).

  4. Click Save on the top right.

5. Header

To adjust the "Customers are saying" header text in the Cards Carousel:

  1. Go to the Cards Carousel settings.

  2. Scroll down to the HEADER section at the bottom.

  3. In the Header text field, edit the default "Customers are saying" texts.

  4. Click Save on the top right.

To disable the average rating under the header in the Cards Carousel:

  1. Go to the Cards Carousel settings.

  2. Scroll down to the HEADER section at the bottom.

  3. Disable "Average rating text".

  4. Click Save on the top right.

Troubleshoot

I've added the Cards Carousel but only see its header

If you've added the Cards Carousel block in your Shopify theme editor but you only see the "Customers are saying" header, the numeric rating, the review count, and the Verified badge, and don't see any reviews, it’s usually because the Judge.me app embed is not enabled in your theme.

When the app embed is disabled, the Cards Carousel can’t fully load the reviews.

To fix this, make sure to enable the Judge.me app embed in your theme.
