Translating reviews in the Review Widget

Learn how to enable automatic or manual review translations in the Review Widget

Available on the Awesome plan

Judge.me offers two flexible ways to translate reviews shown in your Review Widget:

  • Automatic translation: Reviews are instantly translated based on your store's default language or the customer’s preferred browsing language.

  • Manual translation: Customers can translate individual reviews with one click.

Both methods help your store become more accessible and customer-friendly, especially for international audiences.

Considerations

  • We use a combination of the Chrome Translation API and AI-powered translation to translate your reviews. While this provides high-quality results in most cases, machine translation isn’t perfect, so occasional inaccuracies may still occur.

  • Currently, review translation only works in the Review Widget.

Automatic review translation

How it works

Here's an example of how the automatic review translation works:

  • For single-language stores:

    • If your store’s primary language is English and a customer writes a review in French, we will automatically translate that review into English.

    • Customers have the option to view the original text using the Show original link.

  • For multi-language stores:

    • If your store supports English and Spanish:

      • Customers browsing in English will see all reviews automatically translated into English.

      • Customers browsing in Spanish will see all reviews automatically translated into Spanish.

    • Customers have the option to view the original text using the Show original link.

Set up automatic review translation

To enable the automatic review translation in the Review Widget:

  1. From your Judge.me admin, go to Settings > Language.

  2. Scroll down to the Widgets and translations section.

  3. Check the box next to "Enable review translations".

  4. Select "Translate reviews automatically".

  5. Click Save.

We will then start the process to detect the languages of your reviews, which could take up to 48 hours.

Manual review translation

How it works

Here's an example of how the manual review translation works:

  • For single-language stores:

    • If your store’s primary language is English and a customer leaves a review in French, the review will appear in French by default.

    • Customers will see a Translate review to English link. After clicking it, the English version will appear, and customers can switch back at any time using the Show original link.

  • For multi-language stores:

    • If your store supports English and Spanish:

      • Customers browsing in English will see a Translate review to English link for non-English reviews. After clicking it, the English version will appear.

      • Customers browsing in Spanish will see a Translate review to Spanish link for non-Spanish reviews. After clicking it, the Spanish version will appear.

    • Customers have the option to view the original text using the Show original link.

Set up manual review translation

To enable the manual review translation in the Review Widget:

  1. From your Judge.me admin, go to Settings > Language.

  2. Scroll to the Widgets and translations section.

  3. Check the box next to "Enable review translations".

  4. Select "Let customers translate reviews manually".

  5. Click Save.
