Migrating reviews between two Shopify stores

Updated over a week ago

Available on the Free plan

If you’re moving from one Shopify store to another, you can bring your Judge.me reviews with you. This way, you won’t lose valuable customer feedback when switching platforms.

In this guide, we’ll show you how to export reviews from your Judge.me account on one Shopify store and import them into another Shopify store using Judge.me.

Considerations

  • Each store is tied to a separate Judge.me account. When migrating from one Shopify store to another, a new Judge.me account will be created for your new Shopify store.

  • Reviews imported from another Shopify store won’t be verified in the destination Judge.me account. This is because orders, customers, and product IDs are store-specific, so we can’t confirm original purchase data across different Shopify stores.

  • Imported reviews won’t appear in your Google Shopping product reviews feed.

  • Unverified product reviews and Store reviews cannot be synced to TikTok Shop.

Import reviews between Shopify stores

Step 1: Export reviews from your original Shopify store

To export reviews from your original Shopify store:

  1. From your Judge.me admin of your original Shopify store, go to Reviews.

  2. Click Export on the top-right corner.

  3. Select from the following options:

    • "Export published reviews"

    • "Export hidden reviews"

    • "Export archived reviews"

If you have less than 25 reviews, the file will be downloaded to your computer immediately.

If you have more than 25 reviews, we'll prepare the file in the background. Once the exported reviews are ready, we'll send you a notification to the email addresses listed in your Admin notifications setting.

Step 2: Import reviews to your new Shopify store

To import the reviews that you exported from your old Shopify store to your new Shopify store:

  1. Upload the file using our import wizard:

  2. Map the columns:

    • Since the file was exported from another Judge.me account, most fields will be pre-matched correctly:

      • Review title → title

      • Review body (Required) → body

      • Rating (Required) → rating

      • Review date → review_date

      • Reviewer name → reviewer_name

      • Reviewer email → reviewer_email

      • Reply → reply

    • For any columns that don’t have values in your file (e.g. picture_urls, ip_address, or other unused fields), select Skipped from the dropdown.

    • Click Next.

  3. Select product identifier: Since the product identifiers differ between your Shopify stores, reviews can’t be matched automatically. In this step, you choose which product identifier will be used to prepare for the mapping in the next step.

    • Under Match products using, select "Manual product mapping (by reference column)".

    • In the Reference column in your file dropdown, choose either "product_id" or "product_handle".

    • Click Next.

  4. Map the products: Now, link each product reference from your CSV to the correct Shopify product.

    • In the Product column, search for and select the matching Shopify product for each reference.

      • All reviews with the same reference (e.g. the same product_id) will be linked to the Shopify product you select.

      • If a product isn’t mapped, its reviews will be imported as store reviews instead.

    • Once all products are mapped, click Import to finish.

Step 3: Check the import result

Once you upload the review file, we process it in the background.

When the import is complete (usually within 5 minutes), you’ll receive an email with the results, sent to the address listed under your Admin notifications in your Judge.me account on Shopify.

You can also view these results directly in the Reviews Import Log inside your Judge.me admin on Shopify.

If your import succeeds

If your reviews are successfully imported:

  • To show your imported Product reviews on product pages, install the Star Rating Badge and Review Widget.

  • To show your imported Store reviews, set up the All Reviews Page and Floating Reviews Tab.

  • Since videos are not imported by default, if you have videos in your reviews, after the reviews have been imported, you can edit the reviews to upload your videos.

If your import fails

If, unfortunately, your reviews fail to import, check out this article to fix your CSV file and reimport the failed reviews.
