Our default review request email template is designed to work out of the box — it’s clean, effective, and includes all the essential blocks. But if you want to tailor the look, messaging, or layout to better match your brand, you can easily customize it.
Whether you're updating the subject line, adding your logo, or adjusting the tone of the message, the drag-and-drop editor gives you full control over how your request emails appear.
Create a custom template
To create a new custom review request email template:
In Review request and reminder emails, click Create and select "Create custom template".
Choose one of the following options:
Create a new template (based on the default layout), or
Use these prebuilt templates:
Modern
Colorful
Pet accessories
Dark theme
Default with Review Form (Classic)
Customize the custom template
To customize your custom styling review request email:
From your Judge.me admin, go to Settings > Email templates.
In Review request and reminder emails, click the Edit button next to any "Custom styling" template.
Here, you can customize the following elements:
1. Subject line and preview text
To change the subject line and preview text of your review request email:
At the top of the template editor, adjust the following fields to your likings and click Save:

You can also use variables in the subject and preview text to make the email more personal.
2. Layout and colors
Available on the Awesome plan
To adjust the width of your review request email:
Scroll down to the Layout section.
In the Email max width (px) field, enter your desired width in pixels (e.g., 600).
Click Save.
To adjust the colors in your review request email:
Scroll down to the Colors section.
Use the color picker or enter a hex code to define your own colors for these elements:
Email background
Content background
Links
Click Save.

Types of blocks
1. Content blocks

Use the Picture block to display an image in your email (e.g., product image, store logo, or a custom image).
To customize the picture block:
Image source – choose the image you want to display:
Product image – automatically pull the product image from customer’s order.
Store logo – use your store logo (update your logo in Branding).
Manual – upload a custom image. You can get a URL for your image same way as your store logo.
Image width (px) – set the width of the image in pixels. maximum 100px. If you need a larger image, consider using a Text block instead.
Alt text – enter alternative text to describe the image (helps with accessibility).
Redirect URL – add a link that the image should open when clicked.

Use the Text block to add custom text to your email. You can use this block for greetings, promotional messages, or any additional information you want to include.
To customize the text block:
Custom text – type your content directly in the text editor. Use formatting options (bold, italic, underline, lists, font family, colors, links, etc.) to style your text. You can also switch to HTML mode if you want to insert custom code.
Colors – choose the text color and the background color of the block.

Use the Divider block to visually separate sections in your email (for example, between the header and body, or before the footer).
To customize the divider:
Border (px) – set the thickness of the divider line in pixels.
Style – choose the line style (e.g., Solid, Dashed, or Dotted).
Color – pick the divider color.
"Button" block

Use the Button block to add a call-to-action button in your email (e.g., “Write a review”).
To customize the button:
Button text – set the text displayed on the button.
Button URL – enter the link where the button should redirect. You can type

Border (px) – set the border thickness, style (none, solid, dashed, dotted), and corner radius (rounded corners).
Colors – customize:
Button border – color of the button border.
Button text – color of the text inside the button.

Use the Unsubscribe block to add an unsubscribe link to your email footer. This ensures compliance with email regulations and gives recipients the option to stop receiving review request emails.
To customize the unsubscribe block:
Alignment – choose how the text is aligned (left, center, right).
Padding (px) – set the spacing inside the block (left, right, top, bottom).
Margin (px) – adjust the spacing outside the block (left, right, top, bottom).
Border (px) – customize the border thickness, style, and corner radius.
Colors – set the text, border, and background colors.
The Unsubscribe block is required. Without it, the template cannot be saved and you'll see this error message:
Could not save the template
The template must have a visible unsubscribe link. You can use the {{ unsubscribe_href }} variable as the link's href attribute.”

Use the Product review block to let customers leave a review for a specific product directly from the email.
To customize the product review block:
Review type – choose how the review trigger appears ("Stars" or "Button").
Colors – set the color of the review stars (by default, they use your primary color).
Image size (px) – define the size of the product image in pixels.
Image dimension – select whether the size applies to the width or height of the image.

Use the Form (Classic) block to include the full review form directly inside the email. This lets customers rate, write, and submit their review without leaving their inbox.
To customize the form block:
Form content
Rating label – text shown above the star rating. (Default: “Rating”)
Title label – text shown above the review title field. (Default: “Review Title”)
Title placeholder – placeholder text inside the review title field. (Default: “Give your review a title”)
Review label – text shown above the review content field. (Default: “Review content”)
Review placeholder – placeholder text inside the review content field. (Default: “Start writing here…”)
Button text – text on the submit button. (Default: “Submit Verified Review”)
Alternative link text – fallback link shown under the form. (Default: “Write review on the web”)
Form settings
Hide Custom Forms questions from the email – toggle to keep emails shorter. Custom Form questions will still be asked on the web review form.
Stars layout – choose vertical or horizontal layout for the rating stars.
Stars order – decide whether to display five stars first or one star first. (Default: Show five stars first)
Colors
Form stars – color of the rating stars.
Form text – color of labels and text fields.
Form link – color of the fallback link text.
"Multi (Classic)" block

Use the Multi (Classic) block to show multiple products from the same order, each with its own review button. This is useful when customers purchase more than one item.
To customize the multi-product block:
Block title – text displayed above the product list. (Default: “Review other products”)
Button text – text on each product’s button. (Default: “Write a review”)
Image size (px) – set the size of product images.
Image dimension – choose whether the size applies to the width or height.
Each product in the order will automatically display with its:
Product image
Product name
A Write a review button
"Stars (Classic)" block

Use the Stars (Classic) block to display clickable stars inside the email. When a customer clicks a star, they’ll be taken directly to the review form for that product.
To customize the stars block:
Stars color – choose the color of the rating stars including
Primary color (Default)
Golden
Black
Grey
Custom (pick any color with a color picker or hex code)
3. Other blocks
"Shop review" block

Use the Shop review block to invite customers to leave a review for your store (instead of just a product). This is useful for collecting overall shop feedback.
To customize the shop review block:
Button text – set the text displayed on the button. (Default: “Review our store”)
Button URL – link to your shop review page. By default, use the variable
{{ shop_review_href }}
so the button automatically redirects to your store review form.Button styling – customize:
Padding (px) – spacing inside the button.
Border (px) – thickness, style, and corner radius.
Colors – button border, button text, and button background.
"Upsell" block

Use the Upsell block to promote additional products in your review request emails. Products shown here encourage customers to make repeat purchases.
To customize the upsell block:
Product collection – select which group of products to display:

4. Layout block
Use Layout blocks to control how content is arranged in your email. You can drag other content blocks (text, images, buttons, etc.) into these layouts to create different structures.
Available layout options:
Full width – display a single block spanning the entire email width.
2 columns – split the row into two equal columns.
Bigger left – split into two columns, with the left column wider than the right.
Bigger right – split into two columns, with the right column wider than the left.
Block layout
For each individual block, you can access the following settings:
Padding: Adjust the space around your block content relative to the block border.
Margin: Modify the distance between your block and the email template border.
Border: Add a border around your block, with options to change the weight in pixels, style, and color of the border.
Border Radius: Apply rounded corners to your block's border.
Color: Customize the text color within your block.
Background Color: Alter the background color of your block.
Align: Fine-tune the text alignment within your block.
