Popup triggers, display rules, and discounts

Control when the sign-up popup appears, how often, and set the discount it offers new subscribers.

Available on the Free plan

The Rules tab of the sign-up popup controls when it appears, how often, and what discount it offers. To open it, go to Popups, click Customize, and select the Rules tab.

How it works

  • Triggers — you pick one: either the popup shows after a time delay, or it shows on exit intent (when a visitor's cursor moves toward closing the tab). It's one or the other, not both at once.

  • Display frequency — closing, declining, or signing up through the popup all hide it the same way: for the number of days you set, tracked via a cookie in that visitor's browser. It'll show again if they clear cookies or come back on a different browser or device.

  • Discount — the code isn't shown on the popup itself. It only reaches the subscriber once your Welcome flow's first email actually sends.

  • Double opt-in — When on, a popup signup doesn’t subscribe someone right away. They first get a confirmation email with a button. Once they click it, they’re subscribed and sent your Welcome email. When off, they’re subscribed and sent the Welcome email immediately after submitting the popup.

Considerations

  • Exit intent only works on desktop — it won't trigger on mobile.

  • Display frequency is tracked per browser, not per customer — it resets if a visitor clears cookies or returns on a different device, so it isn't a hard cap on how often any one person can see the popup.

  • If your sign-up popup offers a discount, a fresh Discount block on the Welcome flow's first email auto-links to it — you'll see a "Synced from your sign-up popup" hint on the block. Picking a different code yourself immediately unlinks it, so your choice is protected going forward rather than being overwritten. See Adding discounts to popups, campaigns, and flows for the full picture across campaigns and flows.
