Black Friday marketing strategy for Shopify: 8 ways to boost BFCM sales & exclusive app deals

For many Shopify stores, Black Friday Cyber Monday is the busiest and most competitive weekend of the year. Almost every store is running a deal, so a discount alone rarely wins the sale. This year, Black Friday falls on November 27 and Cyber Monday on November 30.
A good Black Friday marketing strategy covers three stages: getting ready before the sale, converting shoppers during it, and bringing them back after. The eight tactics below cover what to fix at each stage, and how.
For each tactic, we've included a Shopify app that can help, with an exclusive BFCM deal for Judge.me merchants. Each app also works with Judge.me, so your reviews show up wherever shoppers decide to buy. Keep reading to find out how.
What is BFCM?
BFCM stands for Black Friday Cyber Monday: the four days from the Friday after Thanksgiving to the following Monday.
Before the sale: how to prepare for Black Friday
Shoppers start researching BFCM deals weeks ahead, so get your store ready before they arrive.
1. Build trust with reviews before the rush
During BFCM, shoppers see similar discounts on many stores. Reviews from people who've already bought from you help them choose yours. Collect them before the traffic arrives.
Collect reviews now. Send review requests for October orders so BFCM visitors see recent reviews, not ones from last spring.
Show photo and video reviews. They show shoppers what the product looks like in real life, which matters when they're deciding fast. Clearer expectations can also mean fewer returns after your busiest week of the year.
Add star ratings across the store. Ratings on collection pages and your Black Friday landing page let shoppers compare products at a glance.
Use AI review summaries. Shoppers get the gist of hundreds of reviews in a few lines, without scrolling.
How Judge.me helps: Judge.me collects, displays and summarizes your reviews. It costs free or $15 a month however many orders you take, so a record BFCM won't raise your bill. If something breaks mid-sale, 24/7 support replies in less than a minute on average.

2. Get found on Google and AI search early
Research from Attentive suggests 71% of shoppers plan to start their holiday shopping before Black Friday [1]. Search engines take time to pick up changes, so update your pages early.
Check your top 10 product pages. Each one needs a clear title and a unique description that says what the product is and who it's for.
Update your main collection pages. Add your BFCM offer and dates to the collection descriptions shoppers are most likely to land on.
Turn on review rich snippets. Judge.me's SEO rich snippets send each product's rating and review count to Google, making your pages eligible for star ratings in search results.
How SEOWILL helps: SEOWILL uses AI to suggest better titles and descriptions for Google and AI assistants such as ChatGPT and Gemini. It works alongside Judge.me without an integration: SEOWILL handles the words, and Judge.me's rich snippets add the star ratings.

3. Build a Black Friday landing page that converts
When your ads, emails and social posts all point to different pages, shoppers miss offers and lose track of the deadline. A dedicated Black Friday landing page gives them one place to go, with every offer and end date in view.
Lead with the offer. Put the main deal and the end date at the top of the page.
Link straight to products. Send shoppers to the products and collections on sale, not your homepage.
Check it on mobile. A lot of BFCM browsing happens on phones, so preview every section on a small screen.
Put reviews next to the offer. A star rating beside the deal answers "is this any good?" before the shopper scrolls away.
How GemPages helps: GemPages is an AI-powered page builder, so you can build BFCM pages without code. With the Judge.me integration, you can drag the review widget and star rating badge onto the page, right next to the offer.

During the sale: Black Friday promotion ideas that drive sales
Once the sale starts, focus on turning visits into orders and making each order worth more.
4. Run BOGO, free gift and bundle offers
Shoppers see percentage discounts everywhere on Black Friday. Buy one, get one (BOGO) offers, free gifts and bundles give them a different reason to buy from you. They can also raise average order value for less margin than a site-wide discount.
Free gift with purchase. Pick a low-cost item that shoppers still value, and add it once they reach a spend level.
BOGO and buy X, get Y. These move more units per order, which suits products people buy more than one of.
Tiered gifts. Bigger gifts at higher spend levels nudge shoppers past each threshold.
Mix and match bundles. Let shoppers build their own bundle from a set of products.
How BOGOS helps: BOGOS runs all four formats in one app, and can add a free gift to the cart automatically when a shopper qualifies. With the Judge.me integration, star ratings appear on the BOGOS gift slider and bundle widget. Reviews left on gift products also sync to the original product, so they aren't lost on a duplicate listing. The integration needs the Judge.me Awesome plan.

5. Raise average order value with cart upsells and countdown timers
The cart is where shoppers decide whether to add one more item or check out. It's also where they hesitate, and a clear deadline gives them a reason to finish the order.
Suggest one relevant add-on. Pick a product that goes with what's already in the cart, priced below the main item.
Show how close they are to a reward. "Spend $15 more for a free gift" gives shoppers a target.
Add a countdown timer. Show when the deal ends, and make sure it's the real end time.
How iCart helps: iCart adds a slide-out cart drawer that can show upsells, BOGO and free gift offers, and a countdown timer. With the Judge.me integration, star ratings appear on cart items and on upsell, recommendation and bundle widgets. Shoppers see that a suggested product is well reviewed before they add it.
Exclusive deal: 50% off all iCart plans for life →

6. Help shoppers find deals fast with smart search and filters
Black Friday shoppers often arrive looking for something specific, and they leave if they can't find it.
Pin sale items to the top of search results for your most searched terms.
Add the filters shoppers use to compare, such as price, size and rating.
Check searches that return nothing. Add synonyms so those shoppers still land on products.
How Searchanise helps: Searchanise combines search, filters, merchandising and product recommendations in one Shopify app. With the Judge.me integration, star ratings and review counts appear in search results and filters. The integration needs the Judge.me Awesome plan.
Exclusive deal: 30% off your first 3 months with the code SN_30PRTN26 after installing Searchanise →
7. Personalize the shopping experience with AI
BFCM brings a lot of first-time visitors. If every visitor sees the same products, they have to hunt for what they want.
Recommend related products on each product page, based on what the shopper is viewing.
Show "frequently bought together" items near the add to cart button.
Feature bestsellers for new visitors you don't know anything about yet.
How LimeSpot helps: LimeSpot Growth Agents use AI to handle personalized product recommendations for your store. With the Judge.me integration, star ratings show in the recommendation boxes. They're off by default, so turn them on in LimeSpot's Designer settings before the sale.
Exclusive deal: make 10x back or it’s free →
After the sale: turn BFCM shoppers into repeat customers
Many BFCM shoppers are buying from you for the first time. Get them to buy again, and they become repeat customers.
8. Reward repeat purchases with a loyalty program
A loyalty program gives new customers a reason to come back once the discounts end.
Give points on BFCM orders, so new customers start with a balance they want to use.
Remind them within a few weeks, before your store slips out of mind.
Reward reviews too. It's a simple way to collect reviews from all those new BFCM customers.
How Mage Loyalty helps: Mage Loyalty gives customers points for orders, which they can spend on future discounts.
With the Judge.me integration, customers also earn points for leaving a review, on the free Judge.me plan. If you reward reviews, reward every review whatever its rating, and tell customers about the reward, as the FTC requires.

FAQ
What is BFCM?
BFCM stands for Black Friday Cyber Monday, the four days from the Friday after Thanksgiving to the following Monday. The name "Black Friday" was coined by the Philadelphia police in the early 1960s to describe the day after Thanksgiving when crowds of shoppers came into the city; officers worked extra-long shifts to handle the traffic and accidents from increased footfall. In the late 1980s, retailers gave the name a new meaning: the day holiday sales moved stores from a loss ("in the red") to a profit ("in the black"). Cyber Monday was named in 2005 for the jump in online sales the following Monday. Today BFCM is one of the biggest sales periods of the year for ecommerce stores.
When are Black Friday and Cyber Monday in 2026?
Black Friday is on Friday, November 27, 2026, and Cyber Monday is on Monday, November 30, 2026.
How early should I prepare for Black Friday?
The earlier you start, the better, but you can still collect reviews if you’re starting late. Send review requests through October and November. That gives you time to collect fresh reviews, update your pages for search, build a landing page and set up your offers before Black Friday.
What are the best Black Friday promotion ideas for Shopify stores?
Popular options include buy one, get one offers, free gifts once shoppers reach a spend level, mix and match bundles, cart upsells with a countdown timer, and loyalty points for repeat purchases. Showing reviews next to each offer helps shoppers trust it.
