Segments and flow filters share one builder. Pick customers by what they did with your emails, what they bought, and who they are. Then set how often and over what time. The same rules work in a campaign audience and in a flow.
How segments and flow filters work
Each condition reads like a sentence: what they did, how many times, when, and any filters on it.
Use the builder to:
Resend to people who didn't open: "Opened email zero times where campaign is [your campaign]".
Split first-time and repeat buyers: "Placed order at least 2 times".
Stop a flow when someone buys: an exit condition "Placed order at least 1 time since starting this flow".
Run a flow in one language: "Language is any of German".
Keep a segment out of a flow: "In segment is not in any of VIP".
1. Conditions
You can build conditions from these groups:
Email activity: Received email, Received marketing email, Opened email, Clicked email, Email bounced, Marked email as spam, Unsubscribed from email.
Orders: Placed order, Canceled order, Refunded order.
Customer details: Language, Email consent (flows only), SMS consent, Signup date, Signup source, Customer tags, Location, Lifetime spend, Order count.
Segments (flows only): In segment lets you pick your saved segments, presets and your Shopify segments.
Flows only: the order, checkout or cart that started the flow (This order, This checkout, Last order, This cart, This visit), and Flow history.
2. How many times
Email activity and order conditions take a count: at least, at most, exactly, more than, fewer than or zero times. Counts go from 1 to 10,000.
3. When
You can set the time frame in these ways:
Any condition: over all time, in the last N minutes, hours or days, or between N and M ago.
Segments also: before, after or between dates. Before and after leave out the day you pick. Between dates includes both days.
Flow exit conditions and email exit conditions also: since starting this flow. It counts only what happened since the customer entered the flow this time.
Flow entry filters: Times entered this flow and Has entered flow can take a time frame, for example "Has entered flow is any of Winback in the last 30 days".
4. Filters on a condition
Click Add filter to narrow a condition. You can add up to 10 filters and choose whether they must match ALL or ANY. These filters are available:
Email activity: Campaign, Flow email, Subject, Email type. Opened email also has Automatic opens (it reads "are excluded"). Clicked email also has Link.
Orders: Product, Collection, Order value, Discount code, Sales channel (Online store, Point of Sale, Draft order, Other). Placed order also has Came from email.
Filters apply to each email or order on its own. "Placed order at least 2 times where product includes Earl Grey" means 2 separate orders that each contain Earl Grey. "Includes all of" means one order contains every product you pick.
Automatic opens
Apple Mail's privacy feature opens emails automatically. These opens can make your open rates look high. To leave them out, add the Automatic opens filter to an Opened email condition. Opens from other email apps and security scanners still count.
When flow filters are checked
Entry filters: Checked once, when the customer would enter the flow.
Exit conditions: Checked right before each email sends. If the customer matches, that email doesn't send and they leave the flow.
Supported flows and conditions for segments and flow filters
Segments and flow filters support:
Segments: Email activity, Orders and Customer details. Use them as campaign audiences.
Flow filters: Your flows, including Welcome, Post-purchase, Product recommendation, Winback, Abandoned checkout, Abandoned cart, Browse abandoned, Back in stock, and custom flows of those types. Each has entry filters, flow exit conditions and an exit condition on each email.
Back in stock: Email activity, Orders, Customer details and In segment. Order and customer detail rows, except Signup date and Signup source, are marked "(registered shoppers only)".
Considerations
Keep these in mind when you use segments and flow filters:
Order rows count orders synced to Judge.me Email. That's up to 24 months back, or 60 days if Judge.me Email can't read all your orders. If your synced orders start later than your store did, order rows show the date they start from.
Order count counts the same synced orders, without canceled and fully refunded ones. Lifetime spend is Shopify's total for the customer.
Discount code filters appear after a short wait. They show once Judge.me Email has finished reading your past discount codes. Older orders that have no saved discount codes don't match any Discount code filter.
"Zero times" includes people who were never sent the email. To keep only people who got it, add Received email for the same campaign or flow email.
Email bounced and Marked email as spam only match customers who can't receive marketing emails. Use them to count or leave people out.
The segment estimate can read higher than the send. The estimate doesn't remove customers you can't email.
Shopify segments in flows can take up to 30 minutes to update. If Shopify can't answer when a customer enters, they enter. If it can't answer at an exit check, the email still sends.
Entry filters only affect new entries. Changing them doesn't remove people already in the flow. Exit conditions catch them before their next email.
Guests on Abandoned checkout: In entry filters, Order count, Customer tags, Location and Language are ignored for guests, so they never keep a guest out. In exit conditions, only Order count and Customer tags are ignored. A guest never matches a Location or Language exit condition.
Guests on Back in stock: A guest never matches a condition marked "(registered shoppers only)", whether it says "is" or "is not".
Back in stock customers aren't told. A customer kept out by an entry filter still sees the usual sign-up confirmation, and never gets the restock email.
Limits: 25 conditions, 10 condition groups and 10 filters per condition. Up to 100 campaigns, flow emails, products or segments, and 50 collections, in one pick. The campaign picker lists your 200 newest campaigns. Time frames go up to 3,650 days.
Large collections on segments: If a collection has more than 2,500 products, the estimate shows "Couldn't estimate right now. Try again." and you can't send a campaign to that segment yet.
Live flows: You can have up to 250 live flows on one trigger.
Not available yet: Site activity in segments (viewed products, added to cart), birthdays, product type or tags, and segments inside segments.
Build a segment

The customer skips that email and leaves the flow if they match when it's due to send.
Interactions
Segments used in flows: Editing a segment changes who it lets in or out of every flow that uses it. If you delete it, those filters point at a deleted segment that nobody is in. Manage filters shows "A filter uses a deleted segment. Update it so the flow works as expected."
Back in stock: Manage filters warns that customers kept out (entry) or matched (exit) won't get the restock email they signed up for.
Your existing segments and filters: They moved into the new builder and match the same people as before. Presets can't be edited. Click Duplicate to edit to start from one.
Troubleshoot
My "didn't open" segment is much bigger than the campaign's audience
My "didn't open" segment is much bigger than the campaign's audience
Issue:
A segment that uses "Opened email zero times" has many more people than the campaign reached.
Why it happens:
"Zero times" also counts people who were never sent that campaign.
How to fix:
Add Received email for the same campaign. Then choose that customers must match ALL of the conditions.
"Order count is at least 2" doesn't match someone I know ordered twice
"Order count is at least 2" doesn't match someone I know ordered twice
Issue:
A customer who ordered twice isn't in a segment that uses "Order count is at least 2".
Why it happens:
Order count only counts orders synced to Judge.me Email, about 24 months back, or 60 days if Judge.me Email can't read all your orders. It leaves out canceled and fully refunded orders.
How to fix:
If your synced orders start late, Placed order rows show the date they start from. Orders from before that date aren't counted.
I can't find Discount code in Add filter
I can't find Discount code in Add filter
Issue:
The Discount code filter isn't in the list after you click Add filter.
Why it happens:
Judge.me Email is still reading your past discount codes.
How to fix:
Check again later. The filter appears once Judge.me Email has finished.
The estimate says "Couldn't estimate right now. Try again."
The estimate says "Couldn't estimate right now. Try again."
Issue:
The segment builder can't show how many customers match.
Why it happens:
Very large stores, or collections with more than 2,500 products, can take too long to count.
How to fix:
Try again later. The segment still saves.
A customer entered a flow even though they're not in my Shopify segment
A customer entered a flow even though they're not in my Shopify segment
Issue:
A customer who isn't in your Shopify segment entered a flow that filters by it.
Why it happens:
Shopify segments can take up to 30 minutes to update. If Shopify couldn't answer when the customer arrived, they were let in rather than lost.
How to fix:
No fix is needed. Add an exit condition if you want to stop their emails.
A Back in stock customer never got their restock email
A Back in stock customer never got their restock email
Issue:
A customer signed up for a restock alert, but the email never arrived.
Why it happens:
The flow's entry filters or exit conditions may have kept them out. A guest never matches a condition marked "(registered shoppers only)", and a customer who doesn't match isn't told.
How to fix:
Check the flow's entry filters and exit conditions in Manage filters.
