Judge.me Email: Using custom fonts in your emails

Add a supported Google font, choose a backup and use it in your email designs

Available on the Free plan.

Add a Google font to Judge.me Email, then choose it in your branding or in the email editor. Choose a backup font too. Customers whose email client can't load your font see the backup instead.

How it works

  • Add a supported Google font to your font library once.

  • Choose a backup font for email clients that can't load custom fonts. The default is Arial.

  • Choose the font as your Brand font, or use it for text or a supported block in one email.

Considerations

  • Some email apps show the backup font: Gmail and many versions of Outlook can't load custom fonts. Around 4 in 10 email opens show the backup font instead. Support also depends on the app version and its remote content settings.

  • Saved emails keep their font: An email you've already saved keeps the font and backup font it was saved with. A change reaches it when you save the email again. For flow emails, click Update flows on the branding page.

  • Emails already sent don't change: A font change never affects emails that were already delivered.

  • Only supported Google fonts are offered: The list has regular and bold styles. You can't upload font files or use Adobe fonts.

  • Fonts count toward the email size limit: The limit is about 100 KB. The font declarations count toward it, but the font files don't. If an email is too large to preview or send, simplify its content or use fewer fonts.

Set up a custom font

Step 1: Add the font

  1. Click Add custom font.

  2. In the Font name field, search for a Google Font and select it.

  3. Check the Preview.

  4. Select a Backup font, or keep Arial.

  5. Click Add font.

Font added confirms the font is in your library. Adding a font doesn't change your branding or any existing email.

Step 2: Use it as your Brand font

  1. In Manage brand and styling > Text, select the font in Brand font.

  2. Click Save.

  3. Click Update flows if you want your existing flow emails to use it.

  4. Review the confirmation, then confirm.

Updating flows can replace block-level styling. Review your flow emails before you confirm. Your text and any fonts you set inside text are kept.

Step 3: Use it in one email

  1. In the email editor, open the email.

  2. Select the text or the block you want to style.

  3. In the text toolbar or the block's Font dropdown, select your font.

  4. Click Save.

  5. Click Send test email to check how it looks in your own email app.

To go back to your Brand font, select Default font in the text toolbar, or Same as branding in a block.

Manage your custom fonts

Change the backup font

  1. In Templates > Manage brand and styling > Text, click the edit icon next to the font in Custom fonts.

  2. Choose a new backup font.

  3. Click Save.

The change saves to your library right away. Saved emails don't change until you save them again or click Update flows.

Remove a font

  1. In Templates > Manage brand and styling > Text, click the delete icon next to the font in Custom fonts.

  2. Click Remove font to confirm.

Troubleshoot

My custom font shows in the editor but not in my inbox.

Why it happens:

The email app may not support custom fonts, or it may be blocking remote content.

How to fix:

In Apple Mail, look for a warning that remote content hasn't loaded. Allow remote content for that message. You don't need to turn off privacy protection for all emails. In an app that doesn't support custom fonts, showing the backup is expected.

I changed a backup font or removed a font, but an existing email didn't change.

Why it happens:

A saved email keeps the font it was saved with.

How to fix:

Open the email and click Save again. For flow emails, click Update flows on the branding page. Emails already delivered can't be changed.

I can't find my font in the list.

Why it happens:

Only supported Google fonts are offered. A font you already added doesn't show in the list again.

How to fix:

Look for it under Custom fonts and manage it there.

The font list didn't load.

Why it happens:

The list of fonts couldn't load when you opened the window.

How to fix:

Click Try again. If adding or saving fails, your choices stay in place so you can try again.
