Showing reviews in your Judge.me Email campaigns and flows

Show star ratings and real customer reviews in your marketing emails automatically, pulled in from your Judge.me Reviews app.

Available on the Free plan.

Judge.me Email shows review content from your Judge.me Reviews app automatically. Star ratings and real reviews appear in your marketing emails, with nothing to copy in by hand.

How it works

Review data shows up in three places:

  • Star ratings on the Product block. Each product can show its star rating and review count.

  • "Most reviewed" as a Product source. Alongside sources like Best selling and Random, you can fill a Product block with your most-reviewed products. If your store isn't linked to Reviews yet, or has no reviews, this quietly falls back to Best selling instead.

  • Reviews block. A new block type that shows real review content — across your whole store, for a specific product, or for whichever product an order or cart is tied to.

Considerations

  • Review data refreshes every 6 hours, in both directions. A brand new review can take a few hours to show up — and hiding or deleting a review, or deleting a product, can take just as long to stop it from being sent. If you just made a change and are about to send, it may not be reflected yet.

  • If you don't have Judge.me Reviews installed, you'll see a button pointing to the Reviews app listing instead.

  • Only your published reviews are used. Reviews still awaiting approval, marked as spam, or hidden by you are never included.

  • Only reviews with written text appear in a Reviews block. A star-only review (a rating with no written text) won't show up as a card. It still counts toward the star rating and review count on a Product block, though — so it's possible for a product to show "40 reviews, 5 stars" on a Product block while its Reviews block comes up empty, if none of those 40 reviews have text.

  • Every review counts, whatever its source — your review request emails, your website's review form, imported reviews, and Google reviews are all included. If you don't want a review showing in your emails, hide it in your Judge.me Reviews dashboard.

  • Store reviews don't show up. Only reviews left on a specific product can appear in your emails.

  • Grouped and bundled products don't share reviews here. On your storefront, a grouped product can show the combined reviews of every product in the group. In your emails, each product only shows its own reviews and its own count — this is true for both the Reviews block and the star rating on a Product block.

  • Unpublishing or archiving a product doesn't hide its reviews. If a product is no longer available in your store but still has reviews, those reviews can still appear in your emails. To stop a review from showing, hide it in your Judge.me Reviews dashboard — same as any change, allow up to 6 hours for it to take effect.

  • "The email's product" can pull from more than one product. If an order has several products in it, this setting shows reviews from all of them together, not just one.

  • One difference worth knowing in Abandoned checkout: if the cart is empty by the time the email sends, a Reviews block set to "The email's product" falls back to showing reviews from across your store. A Product block set to "Customer's last basket" does the opposite in the same situation — it shows nothing rather than fall back to other products. Worth knowing if you use both in the same email.

Setting up a Reviews block

You add a Reviews block the same way you add any other block, from either a flow email or a campaign. What differs is which source options are available.

1. In a flow

To add a Reviews block to a flow email:

  1. From Judge.me Email admin, go to Flows.

  2. Open the flow and its email.

  3. Click + Add section, then choose Judge.me Reviews.

  4. Choose a source:

    • Across all products — reviews from your whole store. The default for most flows.

    • The email's product — the order or cart product tied to that send. Falls back to Across all products when there isn't one. Post-purchase and Abandoned checkout default to this automatically. You can pick it in any flow.

    • A specific product — reviews for one product you pick.

  5. Optionally set:

    • Reviews to show — sort by Most recent or Highest rated.

    • Number of reviews — how many to show, up to 6.

    • If no reviews — hide the block, or skip the email entirely. Skipping the email is only available in flows.

2. In a campaign

To add a Reviews block to a campaign:

  1. From Judge.me Email admin, go to Campaigns.

  2. Click a draft campaign and go to the Content step.

  3. Click Edit email content.

  4. Click + Add section, then choose Judge.me Reviews.

  5. Choose a source:

    • Across all products — reviews from your whole store.

    • A specific product — reviews for one product you pick.

    • The email's product — technically available in a campaign, but there's no order or cart to detect a product from. It behaves the same as Across all products — pick A specific product instead if you want one product's reviews.

  6. Optionally set:

    • Reviews to show — sort by Most recent or Highest rated.

    • Number of reviews — how many to show, up to 6.

In a campaign, If no reviews only offers "Hide this block" — there's no option to skip the send, since a campaign always sends.

3. Styling a Reviews block

Beyond source and content, a Reviews block has its own style settings, separate from a Product block's:

  • Desktop columns — how many review cards sit side by side. Defaults to 1 column, unlike the Product block's default of Auto. Mobile always stacks to one column regardless of this setting.

  • Star color — defaults to gold.

  • Font — defaults to Same as branding, or pick a font for this block only.

  • Text color — blank uses your brand's text color.

  • Background color — blank uses your brand's content background.

  • Spacing — vertical and horizontal padding inside the block, in pixels.

  • Margin — vertical and horizontal space outside the block, in pixels.

Turning on star ratings for a Product block

Star ratings are a per-block toggle, not a branding default. To turn them on:

  1. Select a Product block in the email template editor.

  2. Turn on Show star ratings in its settings.

  3. Click Save.

New Product blocks show star ratings by default. Product blocks built before this shipped won't show them until you turn the toggle on, so emails you've already built don't change on their own.
