I want to remove the sample reviews in the Review Widget
I want to remove the sample reviews in the Review Widget
Issue:
When adding the Review Widget block in the Shopify Theme Editor, you see the sample reviews from John Smith and are not sure if these reviews will be shown to your customers.
Why it happens:
For stores without reviews, we display 4 sample reviews with the name "John Smith" in the Review Widget in the Shopify Theme Editor to help you visualize what the widget will look like once real reviews are available.
These sample reviews are only visible in the Shopify Theme Editor and will not appear on your live store.
How to fix:
No further action needed. The sample reviews are for preview purposes only and will not be shown to your customers.
I don't see the "Write a review" button
I don't see the "Write a review" button
Issue:
You have installed the Review Widget, but:
On some product pages, you see the reviews but not the Write a review button.
On other products, you don't see either the reviews or the Write a review button.
Why it happens:
The Write a review button might not show because Web reviews restriction was enabled.
When Web reviews restriction is enabled, only customers who receive the review request email can leave a review. As a result, the Write a review button will be hidden for everyone else.
How to fix:
To check if Web reviews restriction is enabled:
From your Judge.me admin, go to Manage Reviews > Moderation.
Scroll down to the Review restriction section.
Under Web reviews, check if either of the following options is selected:
Only buyers who have received a review request email and API users
Only buyers who have received a review request email
If one of the options is selected, it means Web reviews restriction is enabled.
If you're intentionally limiting reviews to verified buyers, no further action is needed.
If you want to make the Write a review button available for everyone, you can disable the Web reviews restriction.

To check if the Web reviews restriction is enabled:
From your Judge.me admin, go to Settings > Publishing and Moderation.
Scroll to the Review Restriction section.
Under Web reviews, see if either of these options is selected:
Only buyers who have received a review request email and API users

If one of these is selected, the Web reviews restriction is enabled.
I change my Shopify theme and don't see the reviews anymore
I change my Shopify theme and don't see the reviews anymore
Issue:
After switching to a new Shopify theme, the reviews and the Review Widget no longer appear on your product pages.
Why it happens:
When you change your theme, Shopify does not carry over the app blocks, code, and customizations from the old theme.
This means any Judge.me widgets you previously installed (like the Review Widget or Star Rating Badge) are not automatically added to the new theme.
How to fix:
To make sure the reviews and Review Widget show in your new theme, you just need to follow the steps above to reinstall the Review Widget in your new theme.
The Review Widget only shows 1 review
The Review Widget only shows 1 review
Issue:
When clicking on a product link from the Reviews dashboard, the product page loads with no reviews or only a single review visible. Example link:
https://www.shopdomain.com/products/product-name?judgeme_review_uuid=XXXX.
Why it happens:
This special URL format includes a judgeme_review_uuid
query parameter, which is meant to highlight a specific review on the product page. When used, the Judge.me widget filters to show only that one review (for accessibility and deep linking purposes).
As a result:
The full list of reviews will not be visible unless users manually click a “Sort by” dropdown or reload the page without the UUID.
The Review Widget may appear empty or broken if that specific review is unpublished or hidden.
How to fix:
To view all reviews for the product: remove the ?judgeme_review_uuid=XXXX portion from the URL.
Example:
Initial URL: https://www.shopdomain.com/products/product-name?judgeme_review_uuid=XXXX
Change to https://www.shopdomain.com/products/product-name
This will reload the product page with the full Review Widget visible as expected.
Pagination in the Review Widget returns a 404 error
Pagination in the Review Widget returns a 404 error
Issue:
At the bottom of the Review Widget, there's a pagination where you can go see the next page of reviews. However, when clicking the link to go to the second, third pages,..., instead of the reviews, you see a 404 error page.
Why it happens:
A 404 error when clicking the next page of the Review Widget typically happens when there's a JavaScript glitch between the theme and the Review Widget, preventing proper handling of pagination URLs.
How to fix:
To fix the 404 error when going to the next page in the Review Widget:
From your Shopify admin, go to Online Store > Themes.
Find the theme you want to edit, click the 3-dot icon (...) and select Edit code.
Find the theme.liquid file and scroll to the bottom of the file.
Above the body closing tag
</body>
and add the following JavaScript code and click Save:
document.addEventListener("DOMContentLoaded", function () {
this.querySelectorAll('.jdgm-paginate__page').forEach(function (element) {
element.outerHTML = element.outerHTML;
});
});
