We're rolling this out gradually, so you may not see it in your store yet.
Flows can now start from seven moments in your Shopify store: when an order is fulfilled, delivered, out for delivery, cancelled or refunded, and when you add or remove a customer tag. Thank a customer the day their parcel arrives, or welcome someone to your VIP list the moment you tag them.
How Shopify event triggers work
Use Shopify event triggers to:
Follow up on delivery: ask for a review or share care tips once the carrier reports the parcel delivered.
Get ahead of the parcel: send a "your order is out for delivery" note with things to try first.
Say thanks when it ships: send a message when the whole order is fulfilled.
Win back after a cancel or refund: offer help or an alternative product.
Reward a tag: welcome a customer when you tag them VIP or Wholesale, or follow up when you remove one.
The seven triggers
Order fulfilled: you mark a whole order as fulfilled. Sends once per order. An order shipped in parts waits for the last shipment.
Order delivered: a carrier reports a shipment as delivered. Sends once per shipment, so an order split across shipments sends more than once.
Out for delivery: a carrier reports a shipment as out for delivery. Sends once per shipment.
Order cancelled: you cancel an order. Sends once per order.
Refund created: you refund an order, in full or in part. Sends once per order, on the first refund.
Customer tag added: you add any tag to a customer. Sends every time a tag is added, unless that customer is still moving through this flow from a previous tag.
Customer tag removed: you remove any tag from a customer. Same rule as tag added.
The two tag triggers are rolling out after the other five, so you may not see them yet.
Considerations
These are marketing emails. They only reach customers who agreed to email marketing.
Order and delivery triggers: the customer must be subscribed when the event happens. Subscribing later doesn't send the email for that event.
Tag triggers: the customer must be subscribed when the email sends. Customers who aren't still enter the flow, and their email is skipped.
Guest orders don't start these flows. An order needs a Shopify customer record to enter.
Delivery updates depend on your carriers. Shopify only passes on delivery status for carriers that report it. Orders shipped with a carrier that doesn't will never trigger the Order delivered or Out for delivery flows. Many carriers skip the out-for-delivery scan.
Shopify still sends its own notifications. Shopify's shipping and delivery emails keep going out, so some customers will get both.
Flows only apply going forward. Orders and tags from before you turned the flow on don't count. One exception: a refund on an older order still counts if you refund it after the flow is on.
Turning a flow off and on again restarts "going forward". A delivery update that arrives while the flow is off won't send, even after you turn it back on.
Each event sends its own email. An order split into three shipments sends three Order delivered emails. If you cancel an order and refund it at the same time, a customer in both flows gets both emails.
You can't change the trigger after the flow is created.
Subscription renewal orders don't start an Order fulfilled flow, because Shopify already emails each renewal. They still start Order cancelled and Refund created flows.
Create a flow from a Shopify event
Step 1: Choose the trigger
From your Judge.me Email app, go to Flows.
Click Create flow.
Click a trigger chip on Start from scratch, for example Order delivered.
Step 2: Name and create the flow
The flow opens, turned off, so you can write its emails first.
Step 3: Write the emails and turn it on
Customize a Shopify event flow
Entry filters: on the flow, click Manage filters to choose who enters.
Order triggers use the order's details: order value, products, collections, discount used, customer tags, location, order count and lifetime spend.
Tag triggers can check which tag changed, so a Customer tag added flow can run only for VIP.
Order delivered and Out for delivery can check whether it's the order's first shipment or a later one, to send once per order. This filter is rolling out to early users and may not show in your store yet.
Discount used isn't available on Refund created flows. Shopify doesn't send discount codes with refunds, so it shows as "Discount used: Not available for refund flows yet".
The carrier banner on delivery flows can be dismissed with the ×. It stays hidden for that flow only.
Troubleshoot
My Order delivered or Out for delivery flow never sends
My Order delivered or Out for delivery flow never sends
Issue:
Customers never get the Order delivered or Out for delivery email.
Why it happens:
Your carrier may not report delivery status to Shopify.
How to fix:
On the flow, click View report and check Why recipients were skipped. "Carrier never reported the status" means Shopify never got the update. The skip appears after 45 days, or straight away on Out for delivery once the parcel is delivered without that scan.
A customer didn't get the email
A customer didn't get the email
Issue:
A customer you expected to get the email didn't.
Why it happens:
On order and delivery flows, customers who aren't subscribed when the event happens never enter, so they don't appear in the flow. Guest orders don't enter either. On tag flows, customers enter and their email is skipped if they aren't subscribed when it sends.
How to fix:
f the customer entered, Why recipients were skipped in the flow’s View report shows why the email didn’t send, for example "No marketing consent" or "Flow inactive at send".
I turned the flow on, but past orders didn't get the email
I turned the flow on, but past orders didn't get the email
Issue:
Orders from before you turned the flow on didn't get the email.
Why it happens:
Flows only use events that happen after you turn them on.
How to fix:
No fix is needed. New events from now on start the flow.
I don't see Customer tag added or removed
I don't see Customer tag added or removed
Issue:
The tag triggers aren't on Start from scratch.
Why it happens:
These triggers are rolling out to early users in stages and may not be on for your store yet.
How to fix:
Check again later.
A customer got two delivered emails for one order
A customer got two delivered emails for one order
Issue:
One order sent more than one Order delivered email.
Why it happens:
The order shipped in more than one parcel. Each delivered parcel sends once.
How to fix:
To send only once, add the filter for the order's first shipment in Manage filters, if your store has it yet.
