Setting up and managing the Product FAQs widget

Learn how to add the Product FAQs widget to your product pages, generate AI FAQs from customer reviews, write your own FAQs, and customize the widget's appearance.

The Product FAQs widget adds a FAQ section to your product pages — questions and answers drawn from real customer reviews for each product. Shoppers get the answers they need without leaving the page.

You get two kinds of FAQ, side by side in the same widget:

  • AI FAQs — Judge.me drafts questions and answers by reading the product's customer reviews. You review them and choose what to publish. Nothing goes live without you.

  • Your FAQs — FAQs you write yourself. Full control, and they go live as soon as you save.

Shoppers see one list. A single short line appears under the heading whenever any published FAQ was AI-generated.

How it works

The Product FAQs widget displays FAQs on any product page where you place the block. Each product gets its own set of FAQs based on its own reviews — they're never shared across products.

The answers are written into your page's HTML from the moment it loads, not fetched when a shopper clicks a question. This matters for two audiences:

  • AI shopping assistants — Most don't run JavaScript, so they only read the initial HTML. Because your answers are already there, they can be read and quoted.

  • Search engines — The widget also adds FAQPage structured data, which helps search engines understand that the page contains questions and answers.

You don't have to configure any of this. It's how the widget works.

A product needs at least 2 verified reviews before FAQs can be generated for it. Products without enough reviews show a message explaining the requirement.

How it looks

Shoppers see a FAQ section on the product page. You choose between:

  • Accordion layout (full-width question rows that expand).

  • Badges layout (question chips that open the answer beneath the chip).

How to set it up

To set up Product FAQs:

  1. From your Judge.me admin, go to Settings > Widgets.

  2. Find the Product FAQs card, and click Install.

  3. Judge.me starts generating FAQs for products with at least 2 verified reviews. Your first FAQs may take a few hours. Click Go to theme editor to place the widget on your product pages.

  4. In the theme editor, drop the Product FAQs (Paid) block on your product page template and click Save.

  5. When the first FAQs are ready, Judge.me emails you. Click through to review them.

Note: You need the Judge.me app embed switched on in your theme. Without it the widget can't load. It's the same embed the rest of the Judge.me widgets use, so if your other widgets show, you're fine.

Reviewing and publishing your AI FAQs

AI FAQs arrive unpublished — drafted, but not visible to shoppers. You can review them in two places:

From the Product management page:

  1. From your Judge.me admin, go to Settings > Reviews > Products.

  2. Click a product to open its details.

  3. In the Product FAQs section, click Manage FAQs.

From the Widgets page:

  1. From your Judge.me admin, go to Settings > Widgets.

  2. Find the Product FAQs card, and click Manage FAQs.

  3. This opens the cross-product management page where you can see all products with FAQs. Click a product to expand its FAQs.

From either view you can:

  • Read each one and check it against the product.

  • Edit any answer. Once you edit an AI FAQ it becomes yours and moves to Your FAQs.

  • Publish all when you're happy, or publish them individually.

  • Unpublish anything at any time — it disappears from the storefront immediately, including from the structured data.

Always read your AI FAQs before publishing. They're drafted from the product's customer reviews, so if the reviews contain outdated information, the answer may be too.

Writing your own FAQs

To write your own FAQs:

  1. Open a product's FAQ management (from either the Product management page or the Widgets page — see above).

  2. Click Create FAQ.

  3. Write the question and the answer.

  4. (Optional) Click Improve to enhance your answer using AI.

  5. Click Save FAQ. Your own FAQs go live right away — they don't need a publishing step.

You can have up to 10 AI FAQs per product.

Generating more AI FAQs

To generate more AI FAQs for a specific product:

  1. Open the product's FAQ management.

  2. In the AI-generated FAQs section, click Generate more.

New FAQs are added to what you already have — nothing is replaced — and duplicates of existing questions are skipped.

  • The first Generate more runs immediately.

  • After that there's a 30-day wait between runs per product. The page shows the next date you can generate.

(Optional) Before you generate, you can add generation guidance — a short note (up to 500 characters) about what to emphasize or avoid. For example: "Focus on durability and warranty. Don't mention discontinued colors."

Guidance is per store, not per product — it applies to every product the next time FAQs are generated. It steers within what the product's reviews already say; it won't add information that isn't in the reviews.

Customizing the widget appearance

All of the styling is in your Shopify theme editor — to customize your Product FAQs widget:

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Online store > Edit theme.

  2. Navigate to a product page, then find and click the Product FAQs (Paid) block.

  3. This will open the widget settings inside the Shopify theme editor.

You can customize:

  • Widget typeAccordion (a stacked list you click to expand) or Badges (the questions as tappable chips, with the answer opening underneath).

  • Container style and Card color (accordion only) — whether the accordion sits on a filled card, and what color that card is.

  • Chevron button shape (accordion only) — round or square.

  • Question and answer text size — small, medium, or large.

  • Corner styling — square, soft, rounded, or extra round.

  • Text color and Lighter text color.

  • Badge color, Active badge color, and Badge text color (badges layout only).

  • Maximum width — from 320px to 900px.

  • Heading — the text shown above the FAQ list (default: "Frequently asked questions").

If you downgrade

Your FAQs are kept. Both the AI FAQs and the ones you wrote stay in your account, along with your generation guidance — nothing is deleted. However, the widget stops showing on your storefront and you lose access to the Product FAQs management until you upgrade again. Once you upgrade, everything is exactly as you left it.

Considerations

  • A product needs at least 2 verified reviews before FAQs can be generated for it.

  • Storefront text is English in this version. Translation support is planned for a later release.

  • No dates are shown to shoppers. You can see when an AI FAQ was generated in the app; shoppers can't.

  • The widget hides itself when empty — no blank section on your product page.

  • The Judge.me app embed must be enabled in your theme for the widget to load.

  • Each product's FAQs are independent — they are not shared across products or product groups.

Troubleshoot

My FAQs aren't showing on my product page

Issue:

The Product FAQs widget isn't visible on your product page.

Why it happens:

There are several common causes. Work down this list to find the one that applies.

How to fix:

  1. Check if the block is on your live theme. If it isn't, the Widgets page shows a warning banner with a button straight into the theme editor. This is the most common cause — for example after switching themes, since the block doesn't carry across.

  2. Check if anything is published. AI FAQs start unpublished. If nothing is published for a product, the widget hides itself entirely rather than showing an empty box.

  3. Check if the Judge.me app embed is on in your theme.

  4. Check your plan. Product FAQs is an Awesome feature. If you're on the Free plan, the widget won't display.

FAQs can't be generated for a product

Issue:

You see a message that FAQs can't be generated for a specific product.

Why it happens:

There are two possible reasons:

  • The product has fewer than 2 verified reviews.

  • The product is not available in your store (e.g. it's been archived or deleted from Shopify).

How to fix:

Collect more verified reviews for the product. Once it reaches at least 2, FAQs can be generated. If the product is unavailable, make it active in Shopify first.

My generation guidance isn't working as expected

Issue:

You added generation guidance but the AI FAQs don't reflect what you asked for.

Why it happens:

Generation guidance can only steer within what the product's reviews already say — it won't add information that isn't in the reviews. Additionally, if your guidance asks the AI to both focus on and avoid topics that overlap, the "avoid" instruction always takes priority.

How to fix:

Check that the topics you want to emphasize are actually mentioned in the product's reviews. Generation guidance can redirect focus, but it can't introduce new information. To exclude a topic, use "avoid" or "don't mention" — this will always override any emphasis on overlapping content.
